Regarding Nighttime Brightness and Bloom Settings

The game’s color grading changes drastically at night due to the vanilla bloom effect, which personally isn’t my taste. That’s why I originally created V2. However, since some people felt it was too dark for their preference, I decided to release Subnautica 2 Visual Overhaul 2.0, which offers a more balanced look overall.

That said, I still personally recommend enabling HDR Bloom at night if you’re using Subnautica 2 Visual Overhaul 2.0. The effect is disabled by default, so it’s completely optional and up to your preference.

I also wanted to mention that creating and tuning a ReShade for nighttime in this game is very different compared to daytime visuals. The game’s nighttime atmosphere heavily relies on the vanilla bloom system, which is why I added HDR Bloom specifically for those scenes.

Since the game is still in Early Access, there’s no telling what kind of visual improvements or lighting changes we may see in future updates. I just wanted to share these details with you all so you can better understand the direction behind the preset.

Installation instructions

1. Open your Subnautica 2 (Game Folder)

2. Go to: Subnautica2 Binaries Win64

3. Drag and drop all the provided ReShade files into the Win64 folder

4.  Launch the game and wait for ReShade to load.

5.  Press Page Up key to toggle the shader on or off.

6. If shaders fail to load automatically 

* Select `Subnautica 2 Visual Overhaul.ini` manually from the preset dropdown.
