◆ Mod Settings Lite ◆
Tweak your mods without leaving the water. A Mods tab right inside the game's own Settings screen. ◆
★ Beta: toggles and sliders work today. Keybinds, cyclers and buttons are on the way. ★
Lots of Subnautica 2 mods have options, but changing them usually means digging through config files. Mod Settings Lite puts every mod's options into a Mods tab in the game's own Settings screen, built from the game's own rows, fonts and side panel. Changing a mod's setting feels just like changing the game's. ◆
It works with mods that already supported SN2ModSettings, with no changes to them.
I made it as a stopgap: something to get by with while we wait for someone to make a full settings mod. ◆
◆ What it looks like
• Settings → Mods: every installed mod gets its own section, with on/off switches and sliders in the game's style.[/*]
• Hover a row and its description shows in the game's side panel.[/*]
• Press F9 anywhere, even mid-dive, for a quick menu with the same settings.[/*]
◆ Features
• A Mods tab inside the game's Settings screen, in the game's own style[/*]
• F9 menu that works anywhere[/*]
• Changes save instantly. Mods that read their settings live pick them up within seconds[/*]
• Works with existing mods unchanged: same registration files, same saved files, same shared variables as SN2ModSettings[/*]
• Translatable: English and Thai included. It follows the game's language, even fan translations that sit in another language's slot[/*]
• Safe fallback: if a game update changes the Settings screen, the tab steps aside and F9 keeps working[/*]
◆ Beta: not supported yet
• Keybind, cycler and button settings are listed but can't be changed in the menu yet. Toggles and sliders work.[/*]
◆ Compatibility
• Mods made for SN2ModSettings: work as they are. Tested in game with Resource Respawn. Other mods' menus were checked from their files but not yet in game, so reports are very welcome. ◆[/*]
• The original SN2ModSettings: don't run both. While the original is installed, this menu turns itself off so the two don't fight over the same files.[/*]
• Existing saves: safe to add or remove at any time. It never touches your save.[/*]
• Multiplayer / Co-op: settings are local to each player's PC and are not synced.[/*]
◆ Requirements
• UE4SS for Subnautica 2[/*]
◆ Installation
• Install UE4SS for Subnautica 2.[/*]
• If you have the original SN2ModSettings, remove it first. (If you unzip over it instead, its script is replaced by a small stub and your saved values are kept.)[/*]
• Unzip into ... Subnautica2 Binaries Win64 ue4ss Mods . You should get two folders:
• SN2ModSettingsLite: the menu[/*]
• SN2ModSettings: a small compatibility folder. Mods made for SN2ModSettings look for it to register their settings.[/*]
[/*]
• Start the game and open Settings → Mods, or press F9.[/*]
Updating: unzip over the old version. Your saved values are kept; config.lua is replaced, so note any option you changed.
◆ Configuration
Options live in SN2ModSettingsLite/Scripts/config.lua:
• OpenKey: the menu hotkey (default F9)[/*]
• Language: "auto" (follows the game), or a code such as "en" or "th"[/*]
• GameStyleRows = false: simpler rows, if the Mods tab ever looks wrong after a game update[/*]
• SettingsTab = false: no Mods tab, F9 menu only[/*]
◆ Known Issues
• Slider numbers use the game's number format, so with some languages 120 shows as "120,0".[/*]
• Pause menu: the Mods tab was tested from the main menu's Settings. From the pause menu it should be the same, and F9 works there for sure. Reports welcome.[/*]
• Game updates may change the Settings screen. If the tab can't attach, it steps aside and you can still use F9.[/*]
◆ For mod authors
Nothing changes if your mod already supports SN2ModSettings. To add support to a new mod:
• If ue4ss/Mods/SN2ModSettingsLite/enabled.txt or ue4ss/Mods/SN2ModSettings/enabled.txt exists, write your menu to that folder's registrations/<YourMod>.lua.[/*]
• Read your values from the same folder's saved/<YourMod>.lua, or from the shared variable SN2ModSettings/<YourMod>/<Key>.[/*]
The menu format, and translation packs for your mod (lang/<code>/<YourMod>.lua), are explained in the README inside the download.
◆ Translations
Copy SN2ModSettingsLite/lang/en.lua to lang/<code>.lua (for example fr.lua) and translate the text on the right. Send it over and I'll include it. ◆
◆ About this mod
This is a separate menu written from scratch. It is not the original SN2ModSettings and was not made by its author. It only uses the same file layout, so mods made for SN2ModSettings keep working.
I built it as a stopgap for my own mods and anyone else who misses an in-game settings menu, to use while waiting for others to make a proper one. If a fuller settings mod comes along, feel free to switch to it. ◆
◆ Credits & thanks
This little mod stands on the shoulders of the Subnautica 2 modding community:
• Mod Settings for Subnautica 2 by JustChaldea: the in-game settings framework that so many mods were built around (since removed from Nexus by its author). This mod keeps its file format working.[/*]
• UE4SS team, who make Lua modding possible at all.[/*]
• Every mod author who added a settings menu to their mod. ◆[/*]
Big thanks to these authors. ◆
◆ How this mod was made
This mod was developed with the help of Claude AI (Anthropic): writing the menu from the documented file format, mapping the game's Settings screen to add a tab in its own style, and testing it in game. Open source under the MIT license. ◆
◆ Changelog
0.3.0 (first release, Beta)
• Mods tab inside the game's Settings screen, in the game's own style[/*]
